Power Quality Intelligence
South African Insurers Now Have Objective Data on Electrical Claims
TENA is a cloud-connected platform for monitoring, validating and responding to power-quality events in real time. It helps insurers, brokers and commercial customers identify electrical faults, validate damage claims and protect critical equipment from unstable grid conditions.
From distributed power-quality logging to active load disconnection and future EMS/SCADA functionality, TENA turns electrical events into actionable data.

What is TENA?
TENA is a cloud-connected 3-phase power quality monitoring and protection device. It continuously records voltage, current, frequency, earth impedance, and the state of health of surge protection devices — uploading timestamped data to a secure server in real time.
Deployed across homes and commercial buildings in South Africa, TENA gives insurers, risk managers, and C&I clients the electrical event record they have never had before.
What Live Pilot Data Has Revealed
Four incidents from 15+ active sites. Not projections — real data.
Earth Impedance & SPD State of Health
At one residential pilot site, TENA detected degraded earth impedance despite a valid Certificate of Compliance — and flagged SPD failure before it occurred. The client was notified and remediated proactively, without a claim.
Generator Masking a Grid Event
During confirmed municipal powerline work, TENA recorded voltage dropping to 194V and frequency rising to 52.8Hz — a generator signature. Seven hours of internal instability would have appeared as a pure grid fault without the data.
Structural Phase Imbalance
Continuous monitoring revealed L2 carrying 48% of total load against a balanced norm of 33% — a peak deviation of 56%. Structural, not transient. Addressable via circuit redistribution once identified.
Five Devices, One Event
Five independent TENA devices across the Kloof area recorded the same voltage sag event simultaneously. eThekwini network fault records confirmed the upstream cause. One event record covers five sites.

Live pilot monitoring network
TENA devices are already deployed across 15+ sites in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng, South Africa, creating a distributed view of grid-related power-quality events.
By comparing time-stamped events across multiple locations, TENA can help distinguish between site-specific faults and wider feeder or municipal grid events. This creates objective evidence for insurers, brokers, assessors and commercial customers.
Core Features
Real-Time Power Quality Monitoring
Voltage, current, frequency, and power factor — continuously logged across all three phases.
Earth Impedance Monitoring
Continuous measurement of earth connection quality — not just at CoC inspection, but every day.
SPD State of Health
Direct monitoring of surge protection device condition. Automatic alert before failure occurs.
Timestamped Incident Evidence
Every electrical event logged with a precise timestamp — immutable, cloud-stored, report-ready.
Multi-Site Network Correlation
Events from multiple sites compared in real time. Distinguish grid-wide faults from site-specific failures.
Why Teams Choose TENA
For Insurers & Administrators
- Validate or deny electrical damage claims at desktop level — before dispatching an assessor
- Timestamped event data available at the time of claim, not weeks later
- Distinguish grid-wide events from site-specific failures across a portfolio
- Continuous earth and SPD compliance status — not just at last CoC inspection
For Commercial & Industrial Clients
- Improvement of insurance policy terms (e.g. reduction of excess, reduction of premium)
- Identify phase imbalance, voltage sags, and power quality issues before equipment fails
- Manage NMD threshold compliance and avoid financial penalties
- Receive automatic alerts when protection devices degrade or thresholds are breached
- Reduce unplanned downtime with continuous electrical health monitoring

Continuous R&D roadmap
TENA is not a static monitoring device. The platform is being developed as a modular edge system for deeper power-quality analysis, faster protection logic and wider energy-management use cases.
Higher-resolution event detection
Ongoing development is focused on increasing event granularity, including faster identification of abnormal voltage behaviour within short grid cycles.
Enhanced protection logic
Future releases will improve active protection strategies, including configurable thresholds, faster response logic and coordinated disconnection of vulnerable loads.
Lightning and surge intelligence
R&D work is also exploring lightning-related event detection and improved correlation between surge events, grid disturbances and equipment damage.
ARVION AI By DOIGS GROUP and ENERTHON
ARVION AI is the cloud platform that powers TENA's insurance workflow. It enables insurers and administrators to validate electrical damage claims using TENA device data — comparing event timestamps, voltage readings, and protection status against the claim details.
